Hier, le 19 septembre à 18h, s’est tenue le vernissage d’une exposition photographique intitulée Sur le Fil-Reunalla à La Chambre. Trois exposants finlandais, Venla Kaasinen, Henri Airo et Aino Väänänen, ont présenté leurs œuvres au public français, ici, strasbourgeois.

Yesterday, on September the 19th at 6 pm, was held a photographic exhibition called Sur le Fil-Reunalla in La Chambre. Three Finlandese exhibitors, Venla Kaasinen, Henri Airo and Aino Väänänen, have introduced their work to the French public, here people from Strasbourg.

Leur volonté était de montrer la guerre dans leur pays et de faire comprendre la réalité géopolitique. Their will was to show the war in their land and to male understand the geopolitic reality.

Où est située la Finlande ? Where is situated Finland?

Il s’agit d’un pays d’Europe du Nord. The country is located in the north of Europe. A l’est, le pays a 100 000 îles en Mer Baltique. In the east, the country owns 100 000 island in the Baltic Sea. La partie continentale possède près de 200 000 lacs et partage ses frontières terrestres avec la Russie à l’est ainsi que la Suède et la Norvège au nord tandis que les archipels de Turku et d’Aland constituent la partie insulaire du pays. The mainland has got around 200 000 lakes and shares its land borders with Russia in the east and in the north, Sweden and Norway, the island part are the archipelagos, Turku and Aland.

Sa capital est Helsinki et le pays dispose de deux langues officielles : le finnois et le suedois. Its capital is Helsinki and the country has two official languages : the Finnish and Swedish.

Le 15 mai 2022, la Finlande souhaitent faire évoluer ses relations avec l’OTAN et demande alors son adhésion. La loi autorisant l’entrée de la Finlande à l’OTAN est votée à la majorité des suffrages le 1er mars 2023. La Finlande devient le 31e membre de l’OTAN le 4 avril 2023. On 2023 May the 15th, Finland would like to develop its relationship with NATO and ask to join the organization. A law was passed by a majority of votes on 2023 March the first. Finland become the 31th country of NATO on 2023 April the 4th.

Venla Kaasinen

A travers ses photographies, son souhait était de capturer la réalité et les gens autour d’elle, les relations personnelles entretenues ensemble. Through her photographs, her wish was to catch the reality and the people around her, their personnal relationship they have together. Leurs personnalités, leur vie dans ses lieux donnés. Their personnalities, their lives in those given places. Cinq personnes, cinq lieux, des groupes d’œuvres, voilà ce que l’auteur a voulu montrer lors de cette exposition. Five people, five places, couple of works, here what the author wanted to show through this exhibition.

Une façon originale de développer les photos : elle utilise des matériaux trouvés sur place, ce qui donne une sorte de liquide dans lequel elle trempe les photos avant de réaliser le tirage afin de créer une relation organique entre la photographie et les lieux de prise. C’est aussi une manière d’impliquer les relations de ses photographies dans ses images. An original way to develop the photographs : she uses materials found on site, which give a sort of liquid in which she immerses her photographs before making the draw to create an organic relationship between the photography and the place of shooting. It’s also a way to involve the relationships of her photos in her pictures.

Elle s’interrogeait aussi sur la question de savoir ce qu’était le nord sans toutefois trouver une réponse satisfaisante. She also wondered about what is the north without really finding the answer. Le nord est la Scandinavie. Cela a commencé au début des années 2020 (en plein COVID) où elle a déménagé de Londres (9 million d’habitants) vers une ville nettement moins peuplée (900 habitants) en Scandinavie (en Arctique du Nord, une île Hailo), que de questions ! Les différences de climat sont saisissantes. Elle n’en avait aucune idée alors elle s’est emparée de sa caméra et s’est mise en route vers le nord. Elle a essayé de documenter ce qu’elle voyait et sa mission est toujours en cours. La dureté de la vie sur place, que ce soit le froid, le quotidien, la situation géopolitique, cela donne matière à réfléchir. Ils n’étaient pas très heureux. Elle qui a grandi en Finlande a essayé de comprendre comment vivaient les populations de d’autres pays nordiques, leur géographie, leurs frontières, quelle fin à tout cela.

The north is Scandinavia. It started in 2020 (during COVID crisis) when she moved out from London (9 million of people) to a city a lot less populated (900 people) in Scandinavia and how many questions ! The climate difference are impressive. She had no idea so she took her camera and went to the north. She tried to document what she saw and her work is still on progress. The hard way to live on site, the coldness, the daily life, the geopolitic situation, it gives you to think. They weren’t happy. She who grow up in Finland tried to understand how lived those people in another north countries, their geography, their borders, the point to all of this.

Elle a un second projet, une approche plus personnelle qui lui a nécessité plusieurs années de réflexion. Ce qu’elle nomme zones sacrifiées (exploitations minières), et se demande ce que l’exploitation de la nature fait aux gens et aux paysages.

She has another project, a more personnal one that needs several years of reflection. What she calls sacrifies areas (mining), and wonders what exploitation of nature does to people and landscapes.

Originaire du sud de la Finlande, elle vit maintenant à Berlin. Coming from the south of Finland, she currently lives in Berlin.

Henri Airo

Se considérant comme un artiste visuel, il voulait explorer la manière dont on interagit entre nous et vis-à-vis des photographies qui sont une compréhension du monde et qui affectent notre relation les uns avec les autres. Il a d’abord commencé par un travail de recherches d’archives et en ligne et il a réfléchit aux photographies qui pouvaient signifier quelque chose par rapport au sujet choisit. A toutes ces trouvailles et découvertes, il ajoute ses photographies personnelles de façon à tout imbriquer ensemble et que le résultat final ait du sens.

Considering himself as a visual artist, he wanted to explore the way we interact between us and toward the photographs which are an understanding of world and how it affects the relationships among us. First, he started with a work of research through archives and online and he thought about which photographs could mean something toward the chosen subject. He added his own photographs to all the one he found and discovered to make everything work together and make sense.

Ici, il a décidé de s’attacher à la mémoire collective de guerre qui dévoilent divers aspects de la société et comment ces informations sont utilisées. La Finlande est un pays à la frontière de plusieurs pays, la Suède, la Russie et ils ont un passé commun. La Finlande a été pendant longtemps une partie de la Suède mais aussi de la Russie. L’expérience de la guerre a toujours fait partie de leur vie et le service militaire est encore actif et dure entre six et douze mois. Lui-même a dû s’y soumettre.

Here, he decided to focus on the collective war memory that shows many aspects of society and how those informations are used. Finland is a country at the border of a few countries, Sweden, Russia and they have a common past. For a long time, Finland was a part of Sweden but also Russia. The experience of war has always been part of their life and the military service is still on and lasts for between six and twelve months. He did it like many other men.

La photographie du jeune homme affichée là est son père, lui-même aussi y est affiché ainsi que son arrière grand père sur le cheval. On s’interroge alors au sujet de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale et de l’Armée Rouge. Les souvenirs de guerre sont marquants. Dans la société finlandaise, cet aspect revient très souvent. Dans le cadre de son projet, il s’est alors rendu au musée de la guerre pour mieux appréhender la réalité de l’Histoire. Les russes y sont évoqués. Cela l’a conduit à poursuivre ses recherches plus loin. Né en 1996, il n’a pas vécu toute cette partie de l’Histoire et ne connait pas grand monde l’ayant vécu mais il en est conscient.

The photograph that shows a young man is his dad, himself is also held on the wall and his great grand father on the horse. We then wonder about the Second World War and the Red Army. The war memories are significant. In the Finnish society, this aspect often comes back. As part of his project, he went to the war museum to better get aware of the reality of History. The Russian people are shown a lot. So, he went on his researches. Born in 1996, he didn’t live all this part of the History and doesn’t know much people who lived it but he’s awared of it.

Des romans mais aussi des films relatent ces récits. En visionnant ces films, on prend conscience de la réalité de ce que les soldats ont vécu. Il a fait une compilation, un montage de plusieurs extraits issue de trois films mais provenant d’une même œuvre, Le Soldat Inconnu, et cela démontre comment ces histoires sont perçues à travers les créations cinématographiques. On découvre comment le texte et l’image sont associés ensemble, comment la narration est pensée. Les scènes sélectionnées sont celle de l’exécution de deux soldats qui ont déserté, qui n’étaient pas à leur poste.

Novels and movies tell the story of soldiers. By watching those movies, we get aware of the reality of what the soldiers lived at that time. He made a compilation, a montage of several extracts of three movies but coming from the same work, The Unknown Soldier, and it shows how those stories are seen through cinematographic creations. We discover how the text and the image are put together, how the narrative is constructed. The selected scenes are those who show the execution of two soldiers who fled away, who weren’t at their place.
