A word

I thought a word was only a word but I’ve discovered the whole meaning of it. A word has power. With a simply word, you can conquer the world.

Someone said once : « I have a dream. » That person was Martin Luther King and he pronounced those words in a memorable speech. The history made them famous.

One man said « Sieg Heil ! » and the others replied « Heil Hitler ! » with the characteristic hand gesture a sign of allegiance. That man was Adolf Hitler.

Another man said : « Ich bin ein Berliner. » and still today, that memory is kept as a precious thing. His name was John Fitzgerald Kennedy in his speech in 1963 June the 26th when he came for a visit in Berlin-West to mark the 15th anniversary of the Berlin Blockade. He made a book of it, to tell his feelings and thoughts, named with that sentence.

Finally, the wall was destroyed on 1989. At the same time, the Soviet Union came to an end too.

The President of the United States, Kennedy, was assassinated the same year, on November the 22th by Lee Harvey Oswald who was himself killed two days later. How ironic can be destiny sometimes ! It seems that life has finally a justice.

Despite their deaths, the history kept on mind the President’s words. It was even used as a symbol of the end of that era. Anyone who come in Berlin can see it.

« I have a dream. » was pronouced on that same year, 1963 in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, on August the 28th. He also made a book about it using that key sentence as the title.

Martin Luther King was also assassinated, on 1968 April the 4th while he stood in the Lorraine Motel’s balcony in Memphis.

His murderer was James Earl Ray. For his crime, he was put in jail for life and died on 1998 March the 10th in Nashville, Tennessee. Even in prison, what a long life he had !

Words are important.

People might be killed for their ideas. They might be put in jail for telling their mind. They may be sentenced to exile for having spoken too much.

Voltaire was a good example, Rousseau too. One found refuge in England, the another in Swiss.

Speaking, talking, telling the truth, what a crime !

In history, it has always been a strategic issue to silence someone for the sake of others.

To speak out is to speak out against. To speak is to bring facts to light. To speak is to betray. To speak is a danger, yes, a risk for life. Speaking has great consequences. Talking too much is detrimental. You always have ennemies, even unexpected ennemies, lurking in the shadows. You never know what could happen.

If you speak, you may be accused of lying, high treason and be punished for that. You should really think carefully before opening your mouth.

Whatever you may say, in any cases, words have power, maybe a long-range signal.

Dictators are all well protected, paranoid and afraid of hostility.

Twice, the President Trump was threatened. Recently, a smart guy who wrote the suspects’ manifesto tried to kill him, well prepared. He missed his chance.

In the name of democraty and republic, no president should be attacked. The President Macron stood up for him.

The words and actions may always be condemned. There will always be a fringe minority that will try to challenge.

That minority might grow up, through months and years without making anyone suspiscious at first before being caught off guard.

Every good and bad thing has an end. Every power has its limits. You can’t always win the battle. Success is not guaranted.

With the superiority or inferiority complex, many Heads of State tend to forget it.

Despite all the measures taken, a flaw, a mistake and a weakness is always possible, so we must consider every possible scenario and accept our fate.

The determination to press on despite the risks involved is part of the reasons that cause the pilots’ downfall. The wise decision would be to turn back, for safety.

Three-quarters of accidents are caused by human error. That makes think.

», Heinrich Heine
